I quit my job on Friday, November 4, 2019. A few months had passed since my battle with depression had weakened and the ovarian cancer was long gone. I was almost 40, Toni Morrison had died before I met her, and my books sat lifelessly and highlighted heavily with red error lines from Grammarly.
Time was getting the best of me and I was MISERABLE. There was no more joy when entering my office. My writing was always there but, was barely a manuscript to share with anyone. Besides advising and teaching, my publishing company, DreamWriterInk! was flourishing and became my joy barer. I was becoming something new, fun, and demanding. Entrepreneurism was taking root but, I was running out of savings, cable, and heat. By February, it was just my friend, Eddie from high school and college, God, and me.
It's amazing how clearly we can hear God when it's just the two of you. Ok, sure my boyfriend stopped by at times but, my true quality time was divine and spent in prayer, scripture, and late-night conversations with Jesus.
It was during a night like this when Becoming a FEARess Author was born. I asked one question, "God, what do I write?"
What a general question but, He knew about what I meant. I had three incomplete books on my laptop. I needed something to bring in customers, cash, and immediate comfort. A day later I heard my answer, "Write about writing."
I laughed and thought, 'God got jokes,' and didn't give the three words much thought. 'Write about writing' sounded absurd. There was no way God said that, ran through my mind.
Not much longer, maybe a week or so, my sorority sister called for a coaching session and everything began to make sense. As I encouraged her and gave her suggestions for her first book of poetry, things clicked. The teacher inside of me realized many people know why they want t write a book, but don't know the how hidden behind the scenes to get their book published.
Write about writing! Duh!!
Once I understood the message God sent me, thoughts ran through my mind instantly revealing instructions and understanding for the purpose of this book:
1. Write about Writing.
2. Write about the Craft of Writing.
3. Write about Writing to those that don’t know how to write a book.
4. Write about Writing for fellow writers like yourself.
Within a month Becoming a FEARless Author was written, edited, and formatted. It became the starting point for every writer or author signed to DreamWriterInk! Writing & Publishing.
